January Monthly Meeting
& Communication – Ham Radio Presentation
Setting 2013 Goals

Ham Radio & Communications’ Presentation
This month’s meeting features a special treat. Frank – the owner of Home Tek LLC – a New Jersey based Communications Company (www.CheapHam.com) will be giving a presentation on a variety of Ham Radio’s, SSB & CB Radios, as well as Hand Held Radio’s and Repeaters and more…. We will also cover capabilities of certain products, as well as licensing protocol.
Frank founded Home Tek in 1990. He has been a Ham Radio Operator for over 40 years! He worked for AT&T for over 20 years doing Research & Development and managed testing and certification for many different types of communication equipment. Frank was also the CEO of a mid-size engineering company that built a network that connected over 100 US military bases around the world!
The group plans to identify our communication requirements – research certain products and start to implement our communication strategy.
A “group” that cannot effectively communicate with its members – is simply a collection of individuals acting independently.
Monthly Meeting topics to be discussed

• Upcoming Disaster Scenario Weekend Conference
• Setting Goals for 2013
• Committee’s Report and Progress

December Meeting – Committee Presentations & New Ventures

December 8, 2012 at 10:30am

At last months meeting we launched 6 new committees: 1) Medical/Fitness/First Aid, 2) Food, 3) Land/Real Estate, 4) Home Preparedness 5) Procurement & 6) Communication.

This is a big step forward and will allow serious minded members to contribute to the group with their skills and commitment.

This month’s meeting will feature presentations by 2 or 3 committees to establish direction and new goals. Working together with focus and determination will allow us to accelerate our preparedness as a group. There will be time set aside for general group discussion.

Monthly Skill Set Meeting & Moving Forward – Time to Get Serious

Skill Set Presentation – November 17, 2012
From 10:30 – 11:30 Cameron will be giving a complete Presentation on Sprouting. You will leave, knowing how to grow your own sprouts in as little as 3-5 days. A variety of different types of sprouts will be covered and the best lugumes to buy, to get started. She will also touch on common emergency foods and herbs.

Planning & Strategy Session
Immediately following the Skill Set Presentation we will meet for an hour for a Planning and Strategy Session. We hope that several members will voice their ideas and commitment in helping the group move forward. A primary goal is to establish one to three committees – where we can focus our energy and attention to solidify our group preparation. Suggested and potential committees could include, but not limited to, Health & Medical, Food Storage, Land Acquisition, Gardening, Purchasing, Communications, Home Preparedness etc.

The intention is to leave this meeting with a clear direction and action plan.

New members are welcome and encouraged to attend. Jump in and get active!

Keith did a fantastic presentation and covered so much information. We had a packed room of 44 people.

Thank you Keith !

And thanks to Jacques for his motivating talk about the groups future and getting members to step up and present their skills.

If you missed it, here was the meetup flyer:

Preparedness Skill Set Meeting & Outline, Vision and Direction of the next 4 months of group activities.

(Bring your ideas and action plans to share with the group)
We will also discuss the incredible success of our recent Prepper’s Weekend Conference!

We are having a 2 hour information packed Preparedness Skill Set meeting led by a former Marine, who is kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to speak to our group. He has extensive knowledge, learned through experience in the field – of the most essential gear that every Prepper should have on hand.

Bring your Bug out Bag with you – if you have one – no matter how good or bad it may be. This is a great opportunity to gain a lot of knowledge, and to understand the psychology of the Bug Out Bag and General Preparedness going beyond just the BoB. This Skill-Set meeting will provide invaluable info to novice and those further along in their prepping.

Plenty of time for Q&A and group participation. Bring paper and pen!

New members are welcome and encouraged to attend. Jump in and get active!

See meetup (Northern NJ Preparedness)  to sign up.

Cost is $5 per person – to help us cover Meetup and other costs.
Bring a snack and water.

August Meetup for Northern New Jersey Preparedness Group: For those of you that have ever thought about beekeeping or have bees and want to know more or are just curious this will be a presentation you won’t want to miss.  The presenter is a veteran beekeeper and enjoys sharing his knowledge with others and has done many presentations to other groups and we were fortunate to be able to book him for our August meetup.

Summer is a tough time to keep meetings going as people go on their vacations but we decided we didn’t want to skip over the summer and that’s why we now have meetings in the morning so people can come to a meeting and then go and still enjoy the day.

We will also be discussing what we have coming up in September, you won’t want to miss that information as many people have expressed interest in what we have planned!

We had a great meeting in Nyack on Saturday.   Thank you to Kevin for opening his home, and what a beautiful home I have to add.  It is located across from the Hudson River and the home is to die for.  Its an historic home that’s been kept in mint condition and retains all its original character, Kevin was our tour guide as he showed us the house (they don’t make homes like that anymore).  Kevin has created a prepper oasis and has his bases covered.  We could all learn a lot from him.

Victor gave a demonstration of square foot gardening (www.woodlotfarms.com), even though the temperatures were predicted to hit 100 degrees.  Thank you Victor, to work in that heat isn’t easy.  Luckily Kevin had thought out the day well and kept us working in the shade and once the garden frame was built it could be moved to a sunny spot.

Then when we were finished with the garden frame we stopped to enjoy a nice lunch (everyone brought something).  Then we had a short meeting.  There were quite a few ideas for some future meetings.  Then after we were pretty much done the clouds started to come in and threatened with a few raindrops which got us all moving to clean everything up.

Thank you to everyone that came out to brave the heat wave.  It wasn’t that bad though because we were at the perfect spot being surrounded by big shade trees and being across from the river breeze.

This meeting was packed with information.  We had two presenters:  Victor and Jacques.

Victor, who is well known in Wayne for paving the way (after a 1 1/2 year struggle) for the rest of us to comfortably be able to raise a few backyard chickens in Wayne.  He talked about homesteading, square foot gardening and self sufficient survival.  He showed us how we can all make so much better use of our yards and utilize any available space to grow food.  He also discussed quails, which I found very interesting.  If anyone wants more information on Victor and the services he provides, check out:  www.woodlotfarms.com

The second presenter was Jacques who discussed financial preparedness, something that we all need to plan for now.  We all need to protect our finances and this can be done in many ways to cover many bases.  He brought up a lot of great points and even provided the group with a financial preparedness quiz.  If anyone wants to contact him for his services you can email him at:  njpreppers@yahoo.com
